“We Need an Army of Healthcare Workers” Toby Cosgrove Pens Opinion for Politico

This week the U.S. unemployment rate experienced its largest monthly increase since 1975, and many economists predict that unemployment could reach 25 percent in the next month or two, a level not seen since the Great Depression. Meanwhile, our hospitals and clinics are being overrun with Covid-19 patients—there are nowhere near enough doctors and nurses to handle the extreme demand for triage, testing and patient care.

As it happens, both of these problems can be solved, at least partially, with the same solution: establishment of a million-strong Health Care Ready Reserve.
