Apple Inc. Issues Further Guidance on Potential Magnetic Interference

Apple’s forays into healthcare long been in the sights of industry prognosticators excitedly waiting for the next app, delivery tool or remote sensing technology to come to the fore. Late last week, however, Apple issued additional guidance on a hardware issue: the potential for magnetic interference with certain implanted medical devices.

In the company’s own words, Apple posted a statement about how, under certain conditions, some of their produts (such as AirPod charging cases or even iPhones) might interfere with implanted pacemakers or defibrillators. The advice issued was to keep your Apple device > 6 inches away from the implanted device.

This is not a new question and Apple isn’t the only company where this seems to be an issue. Earlier this month the American Heart Association published a study on Apple’s wireless charging technology confirming risks of magnetic interference.

Apple did not post any manufacturing or design solutions relating to this other than to guide people to keep their devices away from their implants.
